WatPubs are social groups established in cities where many Waterloo Coop students are on work term. While they were originally officially associated with the university, they now independently organized as they were considered too much liability.

History

WatPubs have existed since at least 1981, funded at the time through MathSoc and the Co-op Association of Pubbing Students.[1] Later, they were also funded by the Engineering Society[2], and the Federation of Students.[3] On occasion they have also been funded by companies that hire UW coops.[4][5]

WatPubs lost their official support recently (mid-2009[6]), when they became considered too much liability for the Federation of Students' Co-op Student Services.
